Atmosphères Primales est une installation plurisensorielle retraçant l'évolution des atmosphères terrestres, de leur formation à un futur proche. Son dispositif central combine brume, lumière, sons et odeurs dans une immersion d'environ trente minutes.

Notre mission consistait à concevoir les créations olfactives rendant perceptibles des atmosphères disparues, reproductibles chimiquement mais irrespirables pour l’homme. Nous avons formulé des hypothèses sur les effets corporels qu'elles auraient pu produire, puis traduit ces effets en expériences sensorielles. Le travail mobilise le nerf trijumeau pour susciter des sensations de chaleur, de froid ou d'étouffement, engageant directement le corps du visiteur.

L'olfaction a été pensée comme un médium d'incarnation plutôt que de représentation. Le projet s'est construit par itérations entre macérations expérimentales, formulations en laboratoire et ajustements in situ des dispositifs de diffusion.

Atmosphères Primales is a multisensory installation tracing the evolution of Earth's atmospheres, from their formation to the near future. Its central device combines mist, light, sounds and scents in an immersion of approximately thirty minutes.

Our mission consisted in designing olfactory works making vanished atmospheres perceptible, chemically reproducible, but unbreathable lost to humanity. We formulated hypotheses on the bodily effects they might have produced, then translated these effects into sensory experiences. The work engages the trigeminal nerve to trigger sensations of heat, cold or suffocation, directly involving the visitor's body.

Smell was conceived as a medium of embodiment rather than representation. The project was built through successive iterations between experimental macerations, laboratory formulations and on-site adjustments of the diffusion devices.
